Video: University instructor, staffer charged with assaulting MAGA hat-wearing student of color in 2-on-1 beatdown

Police charged a Washington State University instructor as well as a college staff member with assaulting a MAGA hat-wearing student of color on Feb. 28, according to a video report from Turning Point USA's Frontlines.

WSU junior engineering student Jay Sani — a conservative and big supporter of President Donald Trump — said in the clip that WSU instructor Patrick Mahoney and staff member Gerald Hoff ambushed and physically attacked him outside of the Coug, a campus bar. The attack was captured on surveillance video and is included in the Frontlines video report, which you can view here.

'To make it clear, I hate to say this, but I'm brown, but forget it. I'm an engineering student that wants to get the degree and move on. So what if I like someone that you don't like. We have the 1st Amendment, and it's not okay that just because you don't like that person, I should be attacked for it. You had a chance in November to oust [Trump], but you didn't.'

Sani said he was wearing a red Make America Great Again hat at the time of the attack and that Mahoney "ripped the hat off my head." In a Facebook post describing the attack, Sani said Mahoney "crumpled" up the MAGA hat and "threw it into the street, and yelled ... words to the effect of 'go get it bitch.'"

Sani said he threw his food at Mahoney's face but that Mahoney and Hoff ganged up on him, saying Mahoney "grabbed my chest and slammed it on the concrete as I was falling" and "punched me a bunch of times on the back" and that Hoff "kicked me a bunch of times, too."

The Frontlines report includes images of Sani's "multiple scrapes and bruises" resulting from the two-on-one beatdown.

Caught and cuffed

The video report also shows Pullman police catching up with Mahoney and Hoff on bodycam video timestamped in the early morning hours of March 1, just hours after the attack.

"I seen this guy f**king on campus before," Mahoney says on police bodycam video in reference to Sani. "I know he's, like, [a] f**king right-wing dude."

Mahoney also tells police, "I, like, grabbed his hat, threw it, and said, like, 'go get it.'" Hoff admits to police that "we did grab him and bring him to the ground."

However, Mahoney is heard actually telling cops that he didn't hit Sani and that "I don't think I did f**king something illegal, right?"

A voice — presumably an officer — is heard saying on the bodycam clip that "it's unwanted touching," after which Mahoney says, "It's unwanted touching. I don't know what that is, right?"

Mahoney adds on the bodycam clip that Sani "wanted to fight" and "f**king got what was coming to him, right?"

The video notes that Mahoney and Hoff were arrested and charged with fourth-degree misdemeanor assault. The WSU student newspaper, the Daily Evergreen, confirmed their arrests and charges.

The Frontlines video report said Mahoney is a WSU graduate student and instructor who teaches a freshman-level political science class — and is a "notorious far-left activist who hates conservative values and is a regular at pro-Hamas protests in the city."

Mahoney also "has strong ties to the Democratic Socialists of America, progressive pro-labor groups, and is someone who publicly touts his admiration for the communist party," the video report adds, citing Sani. The video also points out a hammer and sickle pin seen on Mahoney's jacket lapel in his WSU headshot:

The Frontlines video report adds that WSU temporarily suspended Mahoney from classes and teaching duties. The Daily Evergreen confirmed Mahoney's suspension.

However, the video report said Sani is speaking up because Mahoney could be reinstated and that his victim doesn't want that to happen. "He shouldn't be teaching here in my opinion, because if you can't tolerate different opinions, then what's the point?" Sani said in the video.

In reference to Sani's skin color, he added in his Facebook post, "To make it clear, I hate to say this, but I'm brown, but forget it. I'm an engineering student that wants to get the degree and move on. So what if I like someone that you don't like. We have the 1st Amendment, and it's not okay that just because you don't like that person, I should be attacked for it. You had a chance in November to oust [Trump], but you didn't."

The Frontlines video report said WSU leaders wouldn't comment on the situation, citing student privacy laws, and that a Frontlines reporter knocked on Mahoney's door to inquire if he wanted to comment on the assault but that he replied, "No, go away," from behind the closed door.

The Frontlines video report added that "we were unable to reach Hoff to get his side of the story, but found his LinkedIn account indicating that he's employed at WSU. Again, the school would not comment on Hoff's status, either."

The video report added that WSU is preparing for a Thursday event featuring TPUSA founder and CEO Charlie Kirk and that the event "is already drawing online chatter from violent militant groups like Antifa and other left-leaning students who are promising to disrupt and cause chaos."

Male arrested after headbutting MAGA hat-wearing motorist at anti-Trump rally admits he 'just lost it'

A male who was arrested after getting caught on video headbutting a MAGA hat-wearing motorist at an anti-Trump rally in Lafayette, Indiana, over the weekend said in an interview that he "just lost it" — but that he didn't go to the rally to protest.

"I can give two f**ks about politics," Jeremy Marks, 36, added to the Lafayette Journal & Courier.

'I wasn't surprised. I knew it was a matter of time before the police were going to come get me. The police know me; they know me by face.'

Marks' fiancée, Leslie Glossic, told the paper she attended the rally to address Palestinian issues — but Marks said he went to support Glossic.

“Jeremy did not get involved with this man because he was a Trump supporter," Glossic added to the Journal & Courier. "He intervened because of the behavior he was showing as a human."

The motorist in question apparently got angry Saturday when protesters were crossing Third Street and wouldn't let him turn at the intersection, the paper said in a previous story, adding that the motorist soon exited his truck and confronted the protesters.

Video recorded by a Journal & Courier reporter shows the angry, bearded motorist — who is wearing a white Make America Great Again hat, according to photos in the initial Journal & Courier story — pointing his fingers and arguing with a handful of anti-Trump protesters in the street.

Soon a male wearing a half-red, half-black hood — identified in the initial Journal & Courier story as an anti-Trump protester — is seen pushing the angry pro-Trump motorist backward before headbutting him.

Video shows the pro-Trump motorist briefly reaching for his face, walking out of frame, and then returning with a rifle, confronting the crowd, and hollering for someone to call 911 as he wipes blood from his nose.

A witness told the Courier & Journal that the headbutting male “took off running” after the confrontation.

Police detained the pro-Trump motorist, placed him in the back of a police vehicle, and drove away from the scene, the paper said. However, police later told the Journal & Courier that "officers conducted a thorough investigation and determined that the driver did not point the firearm at anyone and did not commit a crime, the driver was then released."

'I just lost it and just headbutted'

Marks admitted to the Journal & Courier that "I just lost it and just headbutted. I didn't do it for no other reason but for that old lady. He shouldn't [have] put his hands on that old lady.”

When asked if he regretted headbutting the MAGA hat-wearing motorist, Marks told the paper "not at all” because “he put his hands on that woman.” However, the video recorded by the Journal & Courier reporter shows the pro-Trump motorist pointing his fingers upward and away from his body and not using his hands to touch anyone. It isn't clear if he put his hands on anyone prior to the start of the video.

Marks added to the paper that he thought the pro-Trump motorist who grabbed the rifle after the headbutt was going to shoot him, so he backed away into the crowd.

In addition, Marks told the Journal & Courier that after he saw video of the headbutt on social media later on Saturday he knew he'd be arrested.

“I wasn't surprised," Marks added to the paper. "I knew it was a matter of time before the police were going to come get me. The police know me; they know me by face.”

Marks said he was arrested from his home around 7 p.m. Saturday, the Journal & Courier reported. The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that Marks was charged with battery resulting in bodily injury and that his bond was $250. The Journal & Courier said Marks bonded out of jail.

Marks added to the paper that he was in legal trouble "a couple of years ago, but that's all behind me. It's all done and over with, in the past."

In addition, GoFundMe took down an account set up to help cover Marks' legal fees because it violated GoFundMe's terms of service, the Journal & Courier reported. The account reached nearly $15,000, the paper said, but GoFundMe noted in an email that "the content of your fundraiser falls under our ‘Prohibited Conduct’ section."

VIDEO: Student gets assaulted and spit on for supporting Trump — but refuses to give up his MAGA hat

A video appears to show a teenage Trump supporter being assaulted and spit on at school because of his political beliefs.

A boy wearing an American flag-themed shirt had his "Make America Great Again" hat stolen by a female classmate. The girl refused to give back the boy's MAGA hat.

"Look how f****** stupid you look," the girl tells the boy, and then spits on him. "You f****** look like a clown!" She then points to the MAGA hat.

The boy attempts to take back his property. "Give me my f****** hat," the boy demands. A struggle ensues, and while the boy is grappling to retrieve his hat, a second female student winds up and smacks the boy in the face.

"It's my hat...it's my hat," the boy states.

The girl who stole the hat threatens, "Boy, I'm gonna knock you in your f****** mouth, let go of this f****** hat right f****** now! You wanna support Trump, I'm gonna knock you in the f****** teeth! I'ma knock you in the f****** teeth."

The girl then spits at the boy. She then turns to the camera, and then spits on the boy again.

"How you like that? You my little b****, huh? You my little b****," she says. "You my little b****, huh? Yeah, cuz it looks like it. My spit is on your face."

The camera zooms in on the boy and his face is covered in spit.

The girl dares the boy to hit her, but he is above the violence. "I was f****** raised right, I don't f****** hit a little girl."

This isn't the first time that Trump supporters have been targeted for wearing MAGA hats, which at times have turned violent.

In 2018, a man threw a drink at a 16-year-old for wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat at a Whataburger in Texas.

Last October, a Trump supporter wearing a MAGA hat in Minneapolis was spit on while he was giving an interview to VICE.

Last November, surveillance video was released of someone spitting on a 67-year-old man at a restaurant in Florida for supporting President Donald Trump.

In February, a retired NYPD officer alleged that he was punched in the face because of his MAGA hat.

Also in February, police said a 34-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a 15-year-old who was wearing a Trump hat at a polling tent at his high school in New Hampshire.

There are numerous instances of people attempting to steal the hats right off the heads of Trump supporters, including at Texas State University, a mall in Pennsylvania, a high school in Oklahoma, and two women stole a MAGA hat from a 7-year-old boy then assaulted his mother.
